Had my first Ultrasound yesterday! We got to see the bean and it's heartbeat!
It was only a few minutes after I filled out the paperwork before I was seen by the NP, who was very nice and helpful, and even helped me with the paperwork and gave me a book and some free pre-natal vitamins. Then Tim came, and she went over it all again for him. And then the wait. . .
I'm used to waiting at the Gynecologist for up to 20 minutes, but 40 minutes later he came in brandishing his clean utensils in my face to prove he hadn't had lunch yet. Ok, that's nice, but then he asked my name, and he thought it was hilarious. I'm sorry, but a 60 year old Dr. should not make fun of a patient's name. And like we haven't heard this a thousand times: "You should name your baby Stuart!" After that, I wanted to ask him about foods I should avoid, like hot-dogs, soft cheeses, fish, etc. Nope, he told me don't think about what is healthy for the baby, just eat what doesn't make you vomit. What?! Uh, no, I am most definitely going to think about what is healthy or not. He talked for 5 minutes about sci-fi movies, then another 5 about a bad butterfly joke. After spending all morning throwing up, then all afternoon in a drafty robe, this was not ok.
The Ultrasound itself was pretty neat. Because of my long torso, they had to use the probe, which gave a clear picture. They could tell I ovulated on the right side, that my little bean was about 4 mm long (slightly small for 6 + weeks), but that my gestational sac was normal. Also, we got to see the heart fluttering! He then used 7 different ways of figuring out my due date to prove me wrong, but in the end he admitted that I was right and gave me January 1, 2011 (1/1/11)!
We won't be going back to that OB/GYN. I want my care closer to home (he was 30 minutes away next to my college town's hospital), and the midwives in my town have a great reputation. Also my local hospital is few miles down the same road I live on, as opposed to having to go all the way down the mountain. Also, I think it would be pretty awesome to have Paradise as the town you were born in!

Good call on switching OB's. That guy sounded obnoxious.
