I'm 32 weeks on Saturday! That's 8 months pregnant! I'm measuring a week ahead, but have only gained 21 pounds. I figure I'll gain plenty more in the next two months! I'm starting to get some energy back, though I still want to sleep 9 hours a night and nap in the afternoon. Indigestion comes and goes, just like the Morning sickness. Mostly I am just getting used to being uncomfortable. I finished my Credential thesis this week, so that is a lot of stress off my back!
My shower is a week from Saturday (I'll be 33 weeks that day), and I hope to get much of what I need there. I have purchased two outfits, shoes, a jacket, and diapers. So far family and friends have sent me the swing, the diaper bag, and a Boppy breastfeeding pillow. Mother-in-law has given us a ton of clothes and toys! Oh, and we will get a new stroller from my husband's grandmother, and a second hand-me-down stroller from his cousin. We will be decorating the baby's room this week, and hope to have the room set-up by Thanksgiving!

my perpetual state
The past month has been a whirlwind of busyness! Completely exhausted, but that is my perpetual state.
This past week I had a TB skin test, filled out a ton of paperwork, subbed one day and did Back to School Night on my own, waited around the humid and stinky Sheriff's office for almost an hour for fingerprinting, and it still all wasn't done in time to get paid for subbing this week or next : ( Now I need to finish the students' Unit Exam, write up my September lesson plan, renew my Driver's License, Sub again (unpaid), and hopefully relax for a day in the next week!
My next pre-natal appointment is on my birthday (9/9)! Though we won't have another ultra-sound until October or November. I am feeling better than May-August, because I don't seem to slow down enough to get sick more than once or twice a week. Also I have pills to regulate the nausea. Connor never sits still it seems like! Though I guess right now he has as much time asleep and awake as a newborn. I am getting some Braxton-Hicks when I over-exert myself, and a ton of heartburn (which usually means the baby is born with hair!).
Time to head off for the craziest day of the week. . . TGIF!

Summer Fun
Fun day yesterday!
Tim's Aunt Christine brought her three children up to visit and we all went to the lake. Tim took the young kids out on the boat to teach them to fish, and two of his older cousins brought their girlfriends who were both great company. I got a bit sun-burnt, but later we went to a yummy dinner where I saw an old friend from high school.
Christine gave me some great baby gifts too. Cute clothes for age 0-1 year in a container that will be great for holding diapers, a bathing cushion that turns white if the water is too hot, and organic diapers! A great way to end Summer Vacation!

July to August . . and it's a boy!
Monday, August 9, 2010
On Saturday I saw movement from outside! Twice actually. That was so neat. And Tim felt him for the first time on today. Geeze, five months, can't believe I'm halfway to more than halfway there!
Friday, August 6
I had my first appointment with my new OB today and we really like her. The ultrasound showed that it was very clearly a boy He yawned, sucked his thumb, rubbed his eyes, hiccupped; it was so cute! He is measuring about 1-2 weeks ahead, so that's better than being small, especially since I only gained 4 lbs in 9 weeks. One possible complication was found: partial placental previa. That means the placenta is blocking the birth canal, and could mean I would have to get a c-section. We'll check again in a month or two. Since I'm still sick most days, I was happy to get a new prescription. My next appointment is on my 24th birthday, so that's fun.
Thursday, July 22
We are all moved in and have been very busy. I'm still nauseous most days, and vomiting a couple days a week, which is not fun. Tim was laid-off, which we expected, and why we moved. What we didn't expect was the insurance company saying they won't cover me, as pregnancy is a "pre-existing condition". We found the only plan in the country that will cover me for my pregnancy, but it won't kick in until August first So, we had the unfortunate sadness of having to cancel the untrasound this past Tuesday at my new OB in which we likely would have found out what we are having. I will just have to be patient until my appointment on the sixth to get the ultrasound and morning sickness meds.

Let's play catch-up!
I haven't posted or even visited my blog in over 6 weeks! I've been too sick. So, it's time to play catch up. . . I was still typing but not putting it on here, so I will post what I've been going through these past 6 weeks, from today backwards:
Thursday, July 1
Still sick. After a horrendous Monday in which I threw-up every half hour for five hours straight, I called my OB's office and they prescribed me suppositories. While I hate using them, I have been better!
I am 14 weeks on Saturday, and my stomach is definitely there! Hopefully I am feeling better next week for packing and moving.
Thursday, June 17
I have continued the Zofran, and throw-up about every evening now, which is better. Except I threw-up last night as we were going in to the restaurant for our third anniversary dinner! I was also sick on out first anniversary, so I joked that I was just keeping the tradition. The food was awesome (blackened salmon and fettuccini alfredo), and I did something I never do when eating out: finished all the food on my plate!
Wednesday, June 7
I got to hear my baby's heartbeat on Monday! It was slightly marred by the fact that the Dr. told me 10 weeks was too soon to hear it, so I had to beg him to do it. It makes the sickness more worth it, and the baby seem more real! I really dislike this Dr. though. He also refused to do another ultrasound before 20 weeks because he doesn't want to guess the gender any earlier. I am glad I am moving next month so I will have an opportunity to be rid of him. I lost 4 pounds and my heartrate was higher than my normal but still normal. I got a prescription for Zofran as well, and have only thrown up once so far on it, which is an improvement.
Wednesday, June 2
I have started to feel better as long as I am nibbling on something throughout the day, and I have gained about a pound in the past two weeks which is progress since I lost a couple from being sick. And I have stopped taking the nausea medicine as I threw it up every time the past few days.
It is looking like we are going to move in with my grandpa in 4-6 weeks. He cannot take care of his big house and property by himself, and he is having a hard time remembering his medicine and appointments, as well as the fact that he can't drive (blind in one eye). I want to help out my family, and we both want to be closer to our families before we have our baby. It will mean I have to organize a whole new student teaching position, but I really want to help out my family. Also, he will be moving to a smaller place before we have the baby, so that is good. Today I am going to stay with my grandpa for a couple of days because he needs eyedrops 4 times a day through Friday. Hopefully I will be feeling better while there.
Monday, May 31
I've been very sick for the past three weeks, so that has been no fun. I'm 9+2 today so hopefully it only lasts a couple more weeks!
. . . So, I was sick a lot, I tried many different types of medication, and I'm moving soon. I think that about sums it up.

EDD 1/1/11!
Had my first Ultrasound yesterday! We got to see the bean and it's heartbeat!
It was only a few minutes after I filled out the paperwork before I was seen by the NP, who was very nice and helpful, and even helped me with the paperwork and gave me a book and some free pre-natal vitamins. Then Tim came, and she went over it all again for him. And then the wait. . .
I'm used to waiting at the Gynecologist for up to 20 minutes, but 40 minutes later he came in brandishing his clean utensils in my face to prove he hadn't had lunch yet. Ok, that's nice, but then he asked my name, and he thought it was hilarious. I'm sorry, but a 60 year old Dr. should not make fun of a patient's name. And like we haven't heard this a thousand times: "You should name your baby Stuart!" After that, I wanted to ask him about foods I should avoid, like hot-dogs, soft cheeses, fish, etc. Nope, he told me don't think about what is healthy for the baby, just eat what doesn't make you vomit. What?! Uh, no, I am most definitely going to think about what is healthy or not. He talked for 5 minutes about sci-fi movies, then another 5 about a bad butterfly joke. After spending all morning throwing up, then all afternoon in a drafty robe, this was not ok.
The Ultrasound itself was pretty neat. Because of my long torso, they had to use the probe, which gave a clear picture. They could tell I ovulated on the right side, that my little bean was about 4 mm long (slightly small for 6 + weeks), but that my gestational sac was normal. Also, we got to see the heart fluttering! He then used 7 different ways of figuring out my due date to prove me wrong, but in the end he admitted that I was right and gave me January 1, 2011 (1/1/11)!
We won't be going back to that OB/GYN. I want my care closer to home (he was 30 minutes away next to my college town's hospital), and the midwives in my town have a great reputation. Also my local hospital is few miles down the same road I live on, as opposed to having to go all the way down the mountain. Also, I think it would be pretty awesome to have Paradise as the town you were born in!

Happy Mother's Day to me! Not.
So the Friday before Mother's Day I was called in to sub for the 6-8th grade special education class. I got to go to the Special Olympics! It was a lot of fun, and the Speech Therapists and one teacher (Evelyn) gave me a lot of advice about pregnancy. I had some nausea that day, but it was manageable.
Saturday, my mom came down for the Chocolate Fest! So, my house got cleaned, and I got to spend the day with my mom. She got me a cute top, Capri's, and sandals that are loose. I got her a nice candle, and we both had chocolate! After that I took her out to my mother-in-law's so she could buy a goat. Tim and I stayed out there for dinner. Then I wasn't feeling great so we came home.
And then Sunday, Mother's Day. When we woke up, I was feeling a little sick, so Tim got me a banana and saltine crackers. He also decided to have a full-on discussion about finances and other stressful things, and that made me literally sick. On the bright side, banana comes up easy. I had some chicken noodle soup and crackers and felt fine for a few hours, so I started a registry on Target! Tim was making Nachos (corn chips and cheddar cheese), so I had a little bit. Chips hurt comping up. The rice and chicken I had for dinner stayed down, but didn't make me feel better.
I spent the rest of the day trying not to trow up, and fell asleep by 6 pm. When I woke up this morning, I felt like crap again. I ended up being sick about 5 minutes after Tim left. Is stomach bile yellow? I sure hope so, otherwise I don't know what came up. This morning I'm trying a bean burrito and rice, and hopefully it stays down.
I have my first Prenatal apt. today. I know there will be a ton of tests, including having my blood drawn! I hate needles, and the sick swimming feeling I get after I have my blood drawn. My current EDD is January 1, 2011, but that might change today. Hopefully all will be well, I won;t trow up again today, and I will be ok enough to finish my paper before class tonight.

Belly shots
So I thought I should take pictures of my ever changing belly. . .
3 1/2 weeks pregnant (the day I found out) and still flat:
4 weeks pregnant (bloating is not fun, I couldn't wear my pants):
4 1/2 weeks pregnant (bloating has gone down some):
It feels weird to have a belly this early when I know it is only bloating and not a baby, but it does make me feel more pregnant! Especially with no morning sickness. Though my boobs have gotten bigger. I guess I will just have to see if the bloating goes down, and wait for when I have a belly that doesn't fluctuate daily.

A Day In The Life Of Me:
Here is a day in the life of me! Saturday, May 1, 2010:
Tim's alarm goes off too early for me:
I get the dogs up, but Lily doesn't want to go outside!
I grab some saltines, and get back in bed. Cece wants to share:
Tim heads off to work after a kiss goodbye:
A few minutes after Tim leaves I decide to get up:
Apollo helps make the bed with our new comfortor cover:
Cece helps me get dressed and close the drawers:
After their hard work, they want breakfast:
Time to put in my contacts so I can see:

Then check e-mail, ITNO, and Facebook:
Apollo insists on some loving!
All ready to go:
In the car by 8:11, with my iPod playing Only Exception by Paramore. Brr, 51F, it's cold on the mountain:
Stop at my favorite coffee shop in town (There were about 2 dozen bikers there so it took forever!):
Breakfast - Asiago cheese bagel with cream cheese and a raspberry Italian Soda!
Headed down the mountain into the valley, it's a gorgeous day out!
Get out the books for my all Saturday class:
Class time. We just got new tables and chairs, and our teacher in front is really nice:
At lunch my friend and I decide to walk across campus to enjoy the weather (one of the oldest buildings on campus):
When we get downtown, there is a surprise parade!
We went into the park, got lunch at the barbeque, and watched the parade from the grass:
Afetr 4 more hours of class, it's time to head home. Yeah for warm weather!
Arriving at the Winery 1 1/2 hours later:

We headed back to my dad's for a lovely dinner and stayed until 9:30:
After that we drove home (I slept for most of it). We went straight to bed after putting the dogs to bed. Hope you enjoyed my day!

How I'm feeling at 5 weeks:
I'm doing good so far, mostly just really achey especially in my legs after teaching all day. My stomache feels like a mix of bloated, too full of food, and cramps. I'm also super hungry, and keep forgetting that I need a good amount more calories than usual, so I have only gotten nauseous because I didn't have enough food in me. Like last night when I had to get out of bed at 12:30 am to get crackers and go pee for the tenth time in 6 hours.
But generally, I feel pretty good compared to what most experience, I expected it to be worse. I don't have great luck (broken too many mirrors in my time), so I'm sure I will get my fair share of pain and suffering.

POSITIVE atttitude!
My grandma passed in early April, and as I went throught he stages of greif (Denial, Anger, Bargaining Depression), I found myself stuck at deppression. Finally at her funeral on April 16, I found myself at acceptance. I am glad she is at peace after years of pain.
But I was also very uncomfortable at the funeral, as I was having odd cramps. The next day I thought I got my period, and counted myself out for the month. I started to be a little depressed about it, but realized we would just try again next month! I decided to be positive!
By Tuesday April 20, though, when my full period had yet to arrive, I was wondering if might be pregnant after all?! I couldn't sleep that night. I kept feeling like, "I think I'm pregnant." I got up at 4 am to pee, and still no period discharge at all. So when I woke up again, I decided to test. My hands were shakey and it took me forever to open the foil bag. But I did, and. . . the second line started showing up after 30 seconds! I went and got dressed and came back, and it was still there! I called Tim to see how long he would be working today (late), so I decided I couldn't wait to tell him. He said, "We're pregnant! That's amzaing!" I can hardly believe it! I'm 4 1/2 weeks pregnant!

Life, and death, is cyclical.
So here we are again. It has been just over one year that my Grama Jody passed away from cancer (Bone, Breast, Cervical, Liver, Lungs, and Brain). A few weeks ago we found out that my step-grandma, Katheryn, also has bone cancer. It is like a double grief. It is reopening the exact same grief I had a year ago. They even have the same hospice nurse. I am sad that my grandma is in pain. And while I don't want her to die, I don't her to be in pain anymore.
This pain is also multiplied again, as we lost Katheryn's brother (Uncle Bobby), Katheryn's sister in law, and a cousin all in the past month. They are Basque, a strong people, so that makes it somehow harder to see them go. I don't know why, but you always expect the strong to live forever.
They are very different women. Jody was a tiny woman, barely scratching 4'10". She was strong in spirit, body, and mind. So when she started admitting pain last January, we knew it was bad, and she died 6 weeks after we found out it was cancer. She worked until two weeks before she passed! Katheryn is also a strong woman in spirit and mind, but her body lost it's strength over ten years ago. She has been in pain often over the past decade with broken bones and illnesses.
In both cases, they are the rock of the family. When Grama Jody passed, we were lost. We didn't even know how much we needed and relied on her until she was gone. With Katheryn, she has been hanging on and fighting for so long, it is very hard for the family to let go. I hope we can, so that she can be at peace.

Onomastics
on·o·mas·tics [on-uh-mas-tiks]
–noun: the study of the origin, history, and use of proper names.
Dictionary.com
Dictionary.com
I love names. I love to learn how they originated and change over time. I love popularity lists. I love to think of name combos with good flow. I follow what celebrities name their babies. I have a dislike for made-up or trashy names. I really love discussing names. I have so many opinions on names, I can't keep it to myself! The funny part is that I am terrible at remembering peoples names.
With the reality of having a baby, you have to get practical with names. While I love Eleanora, it seems over the top for an actual child. And while my Husband would be ecstatic to have a son with the initials of Superman (Kal-El or CAL-L) in the form of Connor Alexander Lawrence Little, I hope I can talk him out of it! Because even though you may think a name is just so much fun, or absolutely adorable. . . A real live person has to live with that name choice.
I think a good name should be not too uncommon that people think it is made up, or so common that they have to go my Michael B. or Mary P for the rest of their life. It should also have a legitimate spelling, so you and your child don't have to spell it out 5 million times. It should also be easy and intuitive to pronounce in your language. You may love Siobhan and it's Irish origin, but Americans will almost never get it right. Also, a name should flow in a combo (first and middle); otherwise what is the point of having a middle name? The exception is of course when it is honoring someone.
So while I have a love for long, feminine, classic names for girls, at least my boys names are pretty basic in their classic use. The hard part is living up to my own standards. I love names. So how to you find the perfect name when you love so many?!
Right now my favorites are (also on this page as a poll):
Girls:
Nora Anneliese
Vivienne Elise
Claire Judith
Hannah Elizabeth
Evelyn Lorelei
Eleanora Catherine
Boys:
Connor Lawrence
James Patrick
Alexander Brian
Nathan Elliott
Isaac Jonathan
Nicholas Edward

Finally Trying!
We are starting our journey trying to conceive (TTC) our first child this Spring!
This past month has been an experiment in letting my body get back to normal after 5 1/2 years on birth control for my Endometriosis. Having this condition, which can cause fertility issues in up to 50% of women who have it, has made me nervous about how long we will have to try. Also, they say it can take a while to get pregnant after using birth control because your cycles are not controlled. But surprise, surprise! I ovulated my first month off it! So, if I get my period this month, we will start trying in April. We could have started trying this month, but I am in a student teaching program that ends in December, and I'd just rather have that done before a baby comes along.
I will continue to blog through this journey, and hopefully through a healthy pregnancy as well!

A Fresh Start!
So this is my new blog! I've had another one for a few years, but I changed my e-mail to be more professional, and I thought I should do the same with my blog!

An introduction. . . I'm Rachel Anne, and I have been married to Tim for almost 3 years! When we married in June 2007, we had no pets. Now we have two miniature Dachshunds: Jasper and Lily, and two cats: Cece and Apollo. They are our babies for now, but we are also trying to start a family.
I'm the Little Mrs.
